About

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League was started in 1976 when a small group of dedicated women did not want the Town animals to be euthanized after stray holds because there was no animal shelter or animal control in East Greenwich. These visionaries pulled a group together and started what has become one of the premiere rescue organizations in RI, now moving to become a full-service animal shelter. They held a special event to raise the start-up funds they needed to get their rescue off the ground and began helping pets right away.
In 1978 the East Greenwich Animal Protection League (EGAPL) officially became Incorporated and received their 501c3 non-profit organization status. At that time the league’s animals were housed at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital (GBAH), who at the time had the contract to receive and hold the towns strays. It made perfect sense to team-up with the animal hospital as they were the recipients of all the towns unwanted pets.
As a non-profit shelter we are committed to the rescue, quality care, and adoption of companion animals into forever homes. We will always support and share the valuable lessons of kindness, respect, and responsibility for animals and we will continue our efforts towards building humane communities.

About

Since 1913, PARL has been a haven for hundreds of thousands of animals in need in the Greater Providence area and beyond. As an open admission shelter, we practice managed intake and aim to help every community member when they are faced with the difficult decision to surrender their pet. We also take in stray animals in situations where our shelter is the appropriate and only option for that animal. Although PARL is not contractually obligated to assist our state’s animal control facilities, we routinely do so because we believe that a strong partnership between animal welfare organizations is vital to our mission.
PARL meets the nationally recognized requirements to be considered a ‘no-kill’ organization. We do not euthanize any animal due to age, space, or length of stay. Euthanasia is only considered for animals posing significant safety risk to the public due to aggressive behavior or those suffering due to a medical condition beyond the help of treatment. We publish our statistics annually to maintain transparency and accountability.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide for the rescue and relief of suffering and homeless animals, and to perform charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals.
Non-Profit Status:
The Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL) is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1913. We are governed by a Board of Trustees, composed of volunteers from the community. PARL does not receive federal or state funding and relies solely on donations from generous individuals, businesses, and foundations to support its programs and services.

About

The Hotel for Homeless Dogs is a 501c3 organization founded in 2013 and is powered by the New England Humane Society.
The Hotel is an animal care facility and adoption center located in Cumberland, Rhode Island. In addition to our facility, we have foster homes located throughout New England. We are a group of dedicated animal lovers who rescue animals from euthanasia at overcrowded county shelters and pounds, as well as abandoned animals, litters found in fields, inhumane situations and other homeless animals in need. Our goal is to care for these rescues until they find their forever homes. We are also committed to educating the public about responsible pet care. The animals in our care are fully vetted and spayed or neutered. They are treated regardless of age, breed, or medical cost. The Hotel receives no state funding or government assistance. We survive by the donations of caring people, fund raising and adoption fees.
We attempt to save animals who are in high-kill shelters and are on the verge of being euthanized due to pet over population. We also rescue those pets that can no longer be cared for by their owners.
Our organization is focused on the well-being of all animals. We assist in rehabilitating and the healing of the abused or neglected animals. Once the animal is healthy, in addition to food, shelter and medical treatment, they receive nurturing care. It is imperative that we promote the maximum of human contact and quality of life for each of our rescued animals.
We make every effort to find a compatible “forever home” for each animal in our care. The importance of placing an animal in the “right” home cannot be overstated – not only for the animal but also for the adopter. Each animal is tested with people and other animals to understand their temperament. We remain in contact with our adopters and remain a constant support throughout their journey.
It is essential to increase public awareness of domestic animal over-population issues and to solicit their help in promoting responsible pet ownership. The Hotel aspires to include school programs that will educate on the importance of animal protection programs, spay and neuter and ways that they can volunteer or help in their community. We believe one of the most effective ways to create a “no-kill nation” is to educate our youth. At the Hotel, we are not only saving animals but we are changing the face of animal welfare. Through our example and leadership, we demonstrate compassion and respect for all living creatures: To treat all living things as we ourselves would like to be treated.

About

PAAWS RI was formed in December 2011 to address an unmet need within Rhode Island’s companion animal population. We are an approved 501(c)(3), non-profit program that receives no state, city, or federal funding. All of our critical, life-saving funds come from generous donors who believe in our mission statement.
The need to form this nonprofit was highlighted through the work of the low cost animal hospital, Care For Animals. As Care For Animals sought to provide medical care to shelter animals, feral cats and to cats and dogs owned by low income pet owners, it became clear that some animals were not getting adequate – even minimal – care, because of budgetary shortfalls.
Care for Animals interfaced with many RI nonprofits that distribute funds to animals in need. But these limited, combined donations were still not enough to provide animals with adequate medical care, surgical services and rehabilitation. PAAWS RI was formed to meet this need. All funding will be directed to help feral cats, homeless dogs and cats in need of medical care and rehabilitation before they can be adopted and animals belonging to impoverished pet owners.
The mission of PAAWS RI is to provide services to Rhode Island’s most vulnerable populations of animals, through two specific programs.
The first part of our mission is to maintain a shelter/rescue program. Stray and abandoned animals have limited options for treatment through traditional veterinarians and shelters. PAAWS RI will fill this gap with our shelter / rescue program and provide these homeless animals with shelter, medical care and rehabilitation. Once these animals are returned to optimal health they will be adopted out to their forever home.
Many cats and dogs are suffering with easily treatable problems because affordable veterinary care is unavailable. We will fill that void with our program to provide funding for medical and surgical services. Recipients of these subsides will be animals belonging to low-income pet owners and shelter groups. Services include preventative and sick animal care, surgical and dental procedures, vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries.
