About
Many people are afraid to face death and fail to plan for their pets future. Death, or sudden tragedy, can be a frightening reality and this is one of the reasons Whispering Willows exists. WWSDS is a 501c3 non profit and licensed in the state of Missouri. Most shelters do not have the provisions to care for seniors or hospice dogs. We assist the community locally and nationwide by filling this gap.
Our senior dog/hospice intake is decided on an individual basis. All dogs must be altered (if medically able) and up to date on vaccinations before coming to the sanctuary to ensure the health of all dogs involved. Incoming dogs must be able to live openly in a pack and have no previous bite or aggression history. WWSDS is a cage free facility, all dogs are treated as family members and live indoors only. For intake requests, please complete the Intake Questionnaire found on our website. However, please be aware of our mission: WWSDS provides a loving, final home for senior dogs or dogs who have a hospice diagnosis. In support of that purpose, we typically only accept applications for dogs aged 12 and older. Any application submitted for a dog under 12 years of age must include details of a health diagnosis that indicates hospice/end-of-life care is needed. We receive high volumes of requests, so please do not submit multiple inquiries (application/email/fax/phone/IM) for the same dog. The only method for intake review is a completed application.

About
Shep’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable foundation incorporated in the State of Missouri, charter number N000705469. We operate out of a renovated old house in Independence. We opened for business in April, 2019.
The goal of Shep’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary Inc. is to operate a sanctuary for homeless senior dogs in the Kansas City area. We believe senior dogs deserve to live out their lives in a safe, loving environment. Our facility and volunteers are dedicated to caring for these dogs, to give them the support and attention they have lost. We will try to find new families for them, but if we can’t, we will be their family and home, for as long as they live.

About
Castaway Animals Rescue Effort, otherwise known as C.A.R.E., is a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals.
Nestled in Aurora’s countryside, C.A.R.E.’s sanctuary provides life saving rehabilitation and lifetime care to all types of animals. Each animal is unique in the time and care required to heal from lives of neglect, abuse or injuries. No matter their history, our sanctuary gives these animals the freedom and quality of life they deserve. We provide a loving environment for elderly animals who have lost their homes through our hospice program, and we accommodate animals with special needs where elsewhere they may be deemed unadaptable. We have a feline leukemia cabin, and we are consistently taking in animals with emergency medical needs. The sanctuary is a peaceful place where transformations happen when animals realize they are safe and loved.
Established in 1992, C.A.R.E. has saved over 25,000 lives and we are still counting. From our humble grassroots beginnings, we have grown into southwest Missouri’s largest no-kill shelter. Operations are still overseen by founder and director, Melissa Sartin. Her compassion for all living creatures drives the organization forward.
Everyday we strive to ease the pain that victims of neglect and abuse endure, offering safety and hope, and finding them the homes they so richly deserve. We are proud to work alongside government agencies and other nonprofits making a difference in the lives of the animals we care so deeply about. Together we serve as a voice for those who cannot speak.
C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue houses hundreds of homeless animals. The Adoption Center in Springfield is open to the public Thursday-Saturday while scheduling adoptions by appointment Sunday-Wednesday. The Adoption Center gives guests the opportunity to meet some of our animals offering a one-on-one experience prior to adoption. Our sanctuary near Aurora is reserved for animals who may need some extra time to fully recover and become ready for adoption. We also house our rescued farm animals at this location. Our unadoptable animals reside at our sanctuary as well, each spending their days with cageless freedom, their nights in warm beds, and receiving lots of love and individual attention.
C.A.R.E. relies solely on the kindness and donations of the public to care for our animals. We are neither city- nor state-funded and all donations are tax deductible. We rescue approximately 1,000 animals a year, including dogs, cats, small mammals, horses, pigs and more. Your donations change the lives of so many animals who would otherwise not have a chance.

About
What sets Stray Rescue of St. Louis apart in the animal welfare community near and far? We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal. We take the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. We see beyond their brokenness and are here to pick up the pieces to make these special animals whole again. We see the individual and know that there’s no “one size fits all” treatment plan. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love. Because these animals come in with a story that would give us all nightmares, it takes them longer to open up, trust and believe in humankind again. But with patience and time – always on their unique schedule – we see the light shine in their eyes again. Animals have an amazing ability to forgive which never ceases to amaze us.
We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal. We rescue the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love, no matter the time or cost.
To ensure a bright future for the underdog. To end needless suffering, negligence, and abuse. To serve the City of St. Louis and surrounding metro areas and have the largest inner-city animal sanctuary in the country.

About
Open Door Animal Sanctuary is one of the area’s largest no-kill animal shelters. Since our founding in 1975, we have provided hope, help and healing to tens of thousands of animals. We serve the community by taking in stray, homeless and otherwise unwanted cats and dogs. Each day, we provide shelter, food, medical care and most of all LOVE to 350 animals. Many of the precious angels who arrive at Open Door recognize for the first time in their lives that there can be love and trust in the world. Every animal that comes to us has a home and a second chance at life. We have a lifetime return policy which means if a family can no longer care for a cat or dog that was adopted from us, it must be returned to our sanctuary.
The mission of Open Door Animal Sanctuary is to provide homeless cats and dogs with the highest quality of life and a second chance to find a forever family.
– We are a “no kill” animal sanctuary; we do not euthanize cats and dogs for space or because they are hard to adopt.
– We provide dedicated love and care to over 400 homeless cats and dogs each day.
– We provide our residents with a largely cage-free living environment.
– We reduce pet over-population by offering a low-cost spay-neuter program and a humane education program to the community.
– We operate a pet food pantry to provide support to families in need.

About
Stover Animal Rescue is a small rural 501(c)3 nonprofit No-Kill animal rescue located in Stover, Missouri. We are completely staffed by volunteers who operate our facility solely on funds raised by our thrift store, through adoptions, donations, and sponsorships. Our organization was founded by lifelong animal advocate Carol Sue Weigel in 2005.
Stover Animal Rescue takes in abused, abandoned, and stray cats and dogs as we have space and the resources to care for them. We rehabilitate them and then try to find them the best match for a forever home. We also work with other licensed rescues and animal advocates to network animals to areas where they will have a higher potential for a great adoption.
As a No-Kill shelter, animals are only euthanized if a qualified veterinarian determines that a mental or physical illness makes a reasonable quality of life impossible.
