About

Our Companions Animal Rescue was founded in 2002 after receiving a gift of 43 acres of land in Ashford, CT for the purpose of building Connecticut’s first animal Sanctuary, rehabilitation, and adoption center.
The Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in New England, provides a comforting, home-like, enriching environment for our community’s most vulnerable animals (those who are older, traumatized, abused, or neglected). The Sanctuary helps these animals by providing them a setting that is conducive to a longer-term stay and provides a low-stress, comforting atmosphere that encourages healing and rehabilitation. Each animal receives a medical and behavioral treatment plan that is modified weekly, based on the animalโ€™s specific needs. The Sanctuary also serves as an adoption center, providing an inviting place for people to meet our animals.
Our Companions mission is to advocate for animals in need by engaging compassionate people to help provide innovative community programs. It is our promise to always do the right thing for animals.

About

PAWS rescues and re-homes approximately 200 dogs and 700 cats annually. Many of the dogs are strays from local animal control facilities and most of the cats that we help are strays and abandoned kitties who roam our streets. A portion of the pets that come to PAWS have been relinquished by their owners who are no longer able to care for them.
PAWS has a handful of paid staff and a team of dedicated volunteers who help with everything from fundraising, kennel work, walking dogs, socializing cats, and much, much more. Every person at PAWS is a valued member of our team . Without them we could not accomplish the miracles that happen every day!
We constantly seek to increase the number of lives we can save by finding adoptive homes for the animals in our care, working closely with other animal groups, and raising funds to secure the supplies and facilities necessary for our operation. PAWS also seeks to decrease the number of unwanted pets by informing and educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering.
PAWS is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that began in 1962 by Westport, Connecticut resident Betty Long to rescue homeless dogs and place them in permanent homes. In the early 1980s, our rescue efforts were expanded to include cats. For 37 years, PAWS rented space from local boarding kennels and veterinary hospitals.
Over time, the demands placed on us by the community increased and we felt that in order to increase and expand our services, we would need our own shelter. In 1999, PAWS undertook the task of building a shelter of our own. We moved into our own shelter in 2001 and have since greatly increased the number of pets we have been able to help.

About

CPRโ€™s mission is rescuing & rehoming abandoned and neglected dogs.
In addition to to rescuing & rehoming dogs, we promote our own spay/neuter outreach program that allows us to assist families that need this service but canโ€™t afford it.
Companion Pet Rescueโ€™s name was chosen very deliberately โ€” we focus our efforts on friendly, social, loving companion pets. We rarely assist in placing dogs with special needs or aggression โ€” we simply are not equipped to rescue these dogs, as our dogs are heavily socialized with others (a doggy daycare environment), or in foster homes, almost all of which have children and other pets.

About

We are a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization working to promote compassion and healing through human-animal connection, founded in 2013 to commemorate and honor the life of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Catherine always said that one day she would care for animals and that nurturing them was her passion. If she were with us today, there is no doubt she would have realized her dream to work with and care for animals.
In 2014, the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation was awarded over 34 acres of Connecticut state farmland by a unanimous vote from the Connecticut State House of Representatives and Senate, which would become home to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Sanctuary. The sanctuary pays tribute to Catherine and her spirit of kindness towards all living things by honoring the bond between humans, animals and the environment.
Since our inception, we have raised over $6.5 million in funding, including grants from Petco Love, ASPCA, Titoโ€™s Vodka and more to support our breadth of programming, including our pollinator protection initiative providing critical shelter, sustenance and migration space for butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and other critical ecosystem pollinators, free community workshops around animal care and environmental protection, aid for seniors to keep and care for their pets and much more. Our donor contributions also go towards our ongoing construction of sanctuary facilities, including a vet in-take center, learning barn and Catherineโ€™s Library.

About

Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc., is committed to helping the dogs who need us the most!
We are a dog rescue only. We love all living creatures, but made the decision several years ago that we needed to focus on dogs rather than spreading ourselves too thin by including cats and small animals in our rescue efforts. There are many reputable cat and small animal rescues in CT, and we encourage you to contact one or more of them if you would like to rescue another species of animal.
Please also note that we do not have the ability to rescue wildlife. If you have concerns about wildlife, please contact CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Wildlife Division or, if after hours, your local animal control. If animal control is closed and it is an emergency, please contact your local police dispatch.
We are a small group of committed rescuers in CT and focus primarily on dogs located in CT pounds. We do occasionally bring dogs into the rescue when the owners are unable to continue to care for them, and also occasionally take dogs from states other than CT. We maintain an active CT animal import license.
Our rescue is approved by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) public charity. We are incorporated in the State of CT and also registered as a non-profit organization with the CT Department of Public Charities. We are a Bronze member of Guidestar.
Our focus as a rescue is to help the dogs who need us the most – dogs with medical and/or behavioral needs who need a little extra in order to become happy, healthy, balanced dogs and make wonderful family members.
The mission of Furry Friends Foster and Rescue Inc. is to save urgent dogs in high kill shelters, primarily in the State of Connecticut, and other pets in bad situations needing a new home.
Further, our mission is to attend to the medical and behavioral needs of these animals and place them in wonderful, loving forever homes.
We strive to educate the public about proper care of their pets, including encouraging spaying and neutering of all pets, providing information regarding low cost spay neuter options, and about programs that can help pet owners with limited resources to keep their pets in their home.

About

Our Mission at Pack Leaders Rescue of Connecticut is to save the lives of dogs and cats both locally, and from the South, that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. We prepare them for a forever home through the three branches of our organization. Our transport service and behavioral training program allow us to rescue, evaluate, and rehabilitate animals, and we place these animals into forever homes through our rescue program. Our rescue and behavioral training programs maintain relationships with adopters to ensure successful placements that last a lifetime.
Pack Leaders Rescue of Connecticut started with our founders Victoria and Americo rescuing an adorable blind dog in need. Victoria immediately became a volunteer for a local rescue. Americo, a professionally certified dog behaviorist, soon jumped on board. Their home in Connecticut became a safe haven for dogs and cats in need both local and out of state. Since then we have opened a facility in East Hartford, developed a foster program, and started our own transport service.
We are very proud that our Rescue saves thousands of animals and gives them another chance at life.
