About
The Little Rock Animal Village (LRAV) encompasses and houses Little Rock Animal Services. However, the Village is more than Animal Services, and it’s much more than your average shelter. They have a learning center for volunteers with regularly scheduled classes to promote animal welfare and public safety. In addition, LRAV has a fully staffed veterinary clinic that cares for the thousands of animals that they take in every year. The Village is a beautiful adoption center, with five large play yards for dogs, and an army of dedicated staff and volunteers.
Friends of the Animal Village is not an animal shelter. We are a separate, volunteer-run organization that provides supplemental support to the Little Rock Animal Village.
LRAV’s Mission:
Construction of the Village, its programs, promotions, and events were all put in place to serve the purposes of increasing adoptions of healthy well-adjusted animals and creating better lives for the animals in our community, all while promoting public safety. The Village boasts an incredible army of dedicated staff, volunteers, and fosters who share a common goal of saving animals’ lives and facilitating as many adoptions as is humanly possible. We constantly look for ways to improve and to build awareness about LRAV.

About
We are committed to helping abandoned, neglected and abused pets; finding loving homes; and educating the public about responsible pet ownership with a strong emphasis on spaying and neutering. . . All of our pets are pulled from over crowded shelters and animal control facilities, who due to lack of space and overwhelming volume are forced to euthanize thousands of healthy, adoptable pets each year. We will also accept pets from owners who can no longer care for their pet. When the animal enters our program, they undergo a complete health check from a local vet to make sure the pet is healthy. The pet is treated for any medical needs, is brought up to date on all vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. The pet is then socialized and assessed by our behaviorist. When the animal has been determined healthy and socialized, it is placed for adoption.

About
The Humane Society for Animals has held over 90,000 animals since it originally opened in 1963. Our facility at 1st and Nursery Rd. was built in 1980 and continuously houses a total of around 85 dogs and 20 cats.
Most of our cats and dogs are strays that have been dumped or abandoned. Others come from local animal control agencies and from people who can no longer care for them, that live in the county.

About
Created in 1998, CARE has grown from an initial group of four volunteers into an organization with three employees and hundreds of volunteers who devote thousands of hours to its rescue/adoption and spay/neuter efforts and to recruit the necessary financial support. CARE is a 501(c)(3) Arkansas nonprofit corporation and a charitable organization fully funded by donations. All donations are tax-deductible. CARE’s headquarters/gift shop is located at 5516 Kavanaugh Boulevard, Little Rock (in the Heights Business District).
CARE does not have a physical animal shelter and operates out of our office in Little Rock’s Heights neighborhood. We use this website as a virtual shelter, where you can view the available pets for adoption and submit your online Adoption Application. To date, CARE’s rescue/adoption effort has saved over 4,000 animals (as of January 2018)—once homeless or unwanted, these pets have now been placed into loving homes. Also, because we have no shelter, CARE relies upon volunteers to “foster” adoptable pets until permanent homes are found. In December 2011, CARE found a way to expand its rescue/adoption effort by partnering with the Arkansas Department of Correction’s Arkansas Paws in Prison program, which places adoptable CARE dogs temporarily into state prisons for housing, socialization, and training by professionally-supervised inmate trainers— this remarkable program is a win-win for CARE, the Department, the dogs, and the inmates! Bottom-line: the number of adoptable pets that CARE can accept into its rescue/adoption program at any time is determined by the number of available spaces for them—either in volunteer foster homes or Paws in Prison.

About
In 1985 the Benton County Animal Control Officer, Nicole Miles, picked up a stray mother dog, Nellie and her four puppies. Rather than take Nellie and her pups to the dog pound, Nicole together with Phil Sciumbato, then Deputy of the Benton County Sheriff Office, decided to seek adoptive homes for them. The question was where do we shelter them until then? The result was a formation of the Bella Vista Animal Shelter utilizing an 8 x 12 shed donated by the Bella Vista Water Department, placed on vacant land owned by Cooper Realty, Inc. Shortly thereafter, a Board of Directors was formed and also obtained a non-profit 501c3 status from the I.R.S.
By 1992 BVAS was handling over 200 animals per year, and had outgrown its 96 square foot shed. Local businesses, residents and contractors came to the rescue by donating materials, labor and money in order to erect a 20 x 36 prefab building. Volunteers from the community also came forward to assist with the animals and to help maintain the shelter.
By 1997 the number of animals housed at the shelter had grown to over 400 per year and the shelter’s annual operating budget was $25,000.
The adoption rate was 49% and the euthanasia rate was 42%.
The 2003 Shelters Expansion Project doubled the shelter’s area, which meant less overcrowding, and a further decrease in the euthanasia rate.
By 2005 the Shelter had an annual operating budget of $140,000 and an annual intake of 965 animals.
By the end of 2005 the adoption/reclaim had increased to almost 80% and the euthanasia rate was at 7.7%.
After the intake of over 30 beagles from a puppy mill bust, it became apparent that more space was needed and “Nibbles House” was born. This addition added 1620 sq. ft. under roof. In 2006, the “Dewey Leines” 816 sq. ft. office building was built and in 2007 “Nibbles House Annex” adding 3472 sq.ft. began construction. This final project finished in March 2008 and effectively closed down the old shelter building which had developed numerous hazardous construction deficiencies.
By 2016 the adoption/reclaim & rescue rate was a phenomenal 98% and the euthanasia rate had dropped to 2%. Laurie May has been the shelter manager since 2015.
